Recently, Pottsgrove High School has changed its policy about backpacks. Students now have to leave their backpacks, coats, and most of their other personal belongings in their lockers. Previously, students were allowed to carry their backpacks openly and freely in the hallways and classrooms, along with wearing winter coats in school. This policy change was an administrative decision made by the school with limited teacher or student input.
This caused some backlash and discourse among the students, especially the senior class. Eventually, students and teachers adjusted to the hallway clutter and have now become a regular part of the early morning routine within the school. Some general consensus I’ve gotten from students is that the policy should be optional or that it should not be enforced at all. While this may never change, no matter how much students argue. This policy is most likely made to enforce safety and to keep students safe and to keep things that are banned from entering the school, like illicit substances or weapons.
Even then, no matter where you live or what school you go to, there is always some kind of chance for something to happen or bad to enter the school. This policy obviously decreases the chance of something like that happening. But also, this is a suburban school with kids in it and not supervillains.
