On February 11, 2026, around 12:30 p.m., students from Pottsgrove High School led a walkout to protest against the operations of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). Student leaders were planning for a demonstration for approximately a week before the event. First, the students walked to the office parking lot. They held up signs demanding justice and defaming ICE. They played music on speakers, chanted slogans, and marched. Megan Peters (11), when asked what her hope for this protest was, said that she wants to get attention to the matter, and silence is compliance.

All the students seemed to be taking this seriously; there was a concern of people going just to get out of class, but mostly everyone was participating in chanting and staying with the group. The students continued a cycle of walking back from the office parking lot to the outside of the science wing classrooms. Anya O’lock (11) said that she was very surprised by the turnout and wasn’t expecting people to be so educated and care enough about the situation.

Leading up to the protest, Dr. Finnerty and Dr. Gonzalez met with the student leaders operating the protest to discuss plans and guidelines of the protest. They shared support of students using their voices, but still handed out write-ups and an unexcused absence to whoever participated in the protest.

The energy was lively, and this is definitely something students won’t forget for a long time. We should be able to use our voice to support or oppose issues in the world. Pottsgrove students coming together like this is something rare and is really only felt during games or color day, so this was truly a special event. Not all students participated in the protest; those who chose to stay indoors went to class as normal. The walkout concluded with students marching back into the cafeteria entrance doors, where they ceased chanting and went to 7th period at around 1:23, as usual.
