SNL Finale

On Saturday May 21st, the emotional Season 47 finale of Saturday Night Live aired. This finale was hosted by the hilarious actress, Natasha Lyonne with musical guest Japanese Breakfast. This finale was emotional due to the fact that Kate McKinnon, Pete Davidson, Aidy Bryant, and Kyle Mooney all announced they were leaving the cast for good. All four of these cast members have been on the show for at least eight seasons, so next season will have a hole very big to fill. Weekend Update co-anchor Michael Che has discussed possibly leaving SNL as well, but hasn’t confirmed a departure from the show. In Natasha’s opening monologue, she had two very good friends and ex cast members of SNL, Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen, visit to help her out. She even made a couple of jokes regarding her seven year relationship with Fred Armisen. Natasha hosted SNL while promoting the second season of her show Russian Doll, which she co-created with SNL alum Amy Poehler. During Weekend Update, SNL member Pete Davidson made a humorous yet emotional farewell to the show. He joked that he knows that viewers tuned in to see if he would “bring up Kanye West”, since Pete is currently dating Kanye’s ex wife Kim Kardashian. Cast member Aidy Bryant also made her farewell during Weekend Update, during the hilarious trend forecast with Bowen Yang. This was a very memorable finale for SNL, and now we all have to wait until after the summer for season 48. Until next season!
