Revisiting “Red”

Revisiting Red

Ellie Sheller

Time after time, Taylor Swift takes the world by storm. The eleven time Grammy winner is back and better than ever with her re-recording of her 2012 album “Red”. Taylor is in the process of re-recording all of her albums for a very interesting reason. Taylor explained on Late Night with Seth Meyers, she “has always wanted to own her own music”, but in 2019, Big Machine Records, the record company that released her first six studio albums sold the rights to her music to talent manager, Scooter Braun. So now, when you see (Taylor’s Version) on a Taylor Swift song, she now owns that. She also explained how now, she “gets to do things that they (her fans) wished I had done the first time”, referring to which songs should’ve been singles and which songs should’ve gotten music videos. With that, she wrote and directed a short film for her song “All Too Well”. This song is famously known to be about actor Jake Gyllenhaal. This 14 minute short film, starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien, already has 33 million views and growing. She stated that this song was originally 10 minutes long, and hadn’t released the 10 minute version until now.

With these re-recordings, Taylor has also come out with many new songs “from the vault”, that were made along with these albums when she was recording them. One of these songs from the vault, “I Bet You Think About Me”, has also been released with a new music video. This stunning music video has been directed by actress Blake Lively, and stars Taylor and actor Miles Teller. This music video also marks Blake Lively’s directorial debut. Fun fact, Taylor and Miles Teller are both Pennsylvania natives, Taylor being from Reading and Miles Teller is from Downingtown! On Saturday, November 13th, Taylor Swift was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, where she performed the 10 minute version of “All Too Well”. Some special guests who came to see Taylor perform include Joe Biden, and Selena Gomez. Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Anya Taylor-Joy, Cara Delevigne, Joe Jonas (Taylor’s ex), and his wife Sophie Turner were also seen at the SNL after party.
