Indoor track and field deserves way more recognition than it deserves because athletes train hard, often in a lot of cold weather conditions, they also compete in a variety of competitive events each event taking either sprinting, jumping, throwing, and hurdling which takes dedication and skill. The sport also brings a lot of teamwork because each athlete’s performance contributes to the team. Each performance gives points towards their schools.
My first reason why the recognition matters is the variety of events that indoor track and field offers. Many people only think about running, but the sport is much more than that. High jumpers must perfect their technique, hurdlers must have speed with a lot of coordination, and throwers must build strength. Each event takes hours of practice, and showing appreciation for these different talents helps others appreciate how different and demanding the sport truly is. When all athletes, whether sprinters, hurdlers, or even shot-putters, receive acknowledgement, it encourages more people to understand and respect the sport.
The last reason is that there is a lot of mental focus in track and field. People have a personal record, then the next week have one of the worst races they possibly could have and they have to try to bounce back from that. It takes a lot of dedication because a lot of people quit track because of how hard it is and how mentally challenging it is toward you and your body.
Track puts a lot on your body; people tear hamstrings, break bones, and just get injured all the time so it puts a lot on your body.
In conclusion, indoor track and field is a challenging and rewarding sport that should receive greater recognition. Athletes’ dedication to the sport in the cold weather, and the variety of events. By giving indoor track and field the attention it deserves, we acknowledge the hard work of the athletes and inspire future generations to appreciate the sport even more.
