More stories from Mackenzie Gray
In Game 6 of the Sixers versus the Boston Celtics, the Sixers failed to finish out the game, handing a 95-86 victory to the Celtics. According to ESPN, there was a brief moment of hope for the Sixers when Jayson Tatum fouled Tyrese Maxey, who made both of his free throws, putting Philadelphia ahead at a score of 83-81. There were still six minutes to go in the game, however, the 76ers missed nine consecutive shots and Tatum hit four 3-pointers to save the Celtics’ season. Embiid went 3-for-6 in the fourth quarter, while the rest of the Sixers went 2-for-14. As a team, the Sixers went 8-for-34 and James Harden missed all six of his shots. The loss inspired lots of reflections among the players and coaches.
Joel Embiid has faith in his team and thinks that they will be ready to win the series. Embiid stated, “We know what we got to do. We’ve gone on the road and we’ve won. It’s not going to be easy in that environment, but it’s the same thing. Everybody has to step up, starting with me. I got to be more aggressive, as far as shooting and making sure I get my teammates looks and everybody else has to do their job and everybody has to show up.” Coach Doc Rivers commented on the game saying, “We had a lot of wide-open 3s. We didn’t make them. I didn’t like how we played overall offensively down the stretch. Got to play through the big fella more. Didn’t think the ball went there [enough].” Coach Doc Rivers has confidence in Embiid like how Embiid has confidence in his team. Make sure to follow along with the Sixers to see if they win Game 7!
