The new app “BeReal” has swarmed the teenage community with its popularity, especially Pottsgrove students. BeReal debuted in 2020, but just recently took off during the summer of 2022. This app sends out notifications world wide at the same time, encouraging their users to take a picture of whatever they are doing at that specific moment. These unedited, spontaneous pictures allow groups of friends to participate in a non-toxic, refreshing social media environment. 

Apps like Instagram and Snapchat have motivated teenage users to alter their appearance or general behavior to better fit the “algorithm” for popularity on the app. BeReal is the exact opposite. While still being classified as social media, BeReal creates an authentic, respectful, and fun space for all of its users to express themselves.
