Many students throughout the school day love to stop by the library, and it’s not to check out books… Mrs. Small, our librarian, brings a safe space to our school to relax, get schoolwork done, or even just have a conversation with her. Mrs. Small, who we all know and love, is the Library Media Specialist at Pottsgrove High School. She has been a big part of our community, contributing in various ways since 2003! During her senior year at Spring-Ford High School, her English teacher, Mrs. Miller, influenced her to become a teacher. Mrs. Small started teaching English to the 9th and 10th graders, but once there was a job opening as the librarian, she took that opportunity and has since been the glue to our library!
Not only is Mrs. Small a big help in the school, but she’s also a big help outside of the building as well! Mrs. Small is the owner of her own business called Dani Bee Funky, a florist and gift shop located in Pottstown. At her shop, she creates beautiful boutiques for her students during homecoming and prom season! I asked how stressful prom season is for her. “I’m a one-man-show, so organization is key. I want everything to be perfect, so much love is put into it all!” Mrs. Small said. Her love for plants, flowers, the community, and creating friendships are all aspects of the business that she admires.
As if she didn’t already have enough on her plate, Mrs. Small also managed to create the yearbooks for our school. She has been leading the yearbook staff for the past 20 years! She was asked what her favorite part about the yearbook staff was, and her response was, “I love the creativity and watching the chosen theme come together.” A member of the yearbook staff, McKenzie Kelly, had some nice words to say about Mrs. Small: “She always gives me such great advice, she listens and she doesn’t judge.” Mrs. Small plays a lot of different roles. “My biggest accomplishment is raising a family with my husband, being a mother to my two sons, and watching them be happy and healthy!” Mrs. Small said. If you didn’t know her before, you now understand how great of a person, teacher, and mother Mrs. Small truly is!
