As the Holiday season comes to an end, we are all hit with the incoming meteor of reality. You’ve had about two weeks of a break from most of your responsibilities, and now you are to be thrown right back into them. Some were still productive over this break, but I can bet most of us sat around and did literally nothing. There were probably plenty of people who planned to catch up over the break, only for it to never happen.
It’s okay though! It’s okay that you didn’t get to the plans of productivity you made, it’s not the end of the world. There are plenty of people in the same boat and there’s time for you to get it back together if you do it wisely. In fact, here are some helpful tips for getting back into it after the Holidays.
First, identify where your motivation level is after the break. Do the tasks in front of you feel generally easy to get through, or very daunting? Depending on where you put yourself will help you figure out where to start and how much of a boost you may need. From there you can decide what works best for you to keep moving forward.
Take it slow. There is no rush to go from 0 to 100 just like that. Start slow and simple, maybe 0 to 20 instead. Taking a step back and working your way back up is the best way to keep you from being too overwhelmed by the task. You can do this by setting one simple task for yourself, like “ I will answer one homework question.”. Then the next time, you can add another task, and then build back up to where you were before break.
Another way to get back into it could be setting yourself a reward. It may not work for everyone, but for a lot of people having a reward set helps them get motivation. When you sit down to complete a task, tell yourself that if you get it done, you can go get a sweet treat. It may help you get moving and push you towards that treat, getting the motivation flowing.
If a reward is something that doesn’t help you, maybe try setting a goal. It could be a small goal or a big one, anything works. However, if you’re just getting back into it, start small and build up in order to not continue to fall behind. Having a goal is having something to work towards, which can naturally create motivation for people. It may help you stay focused on what you need to get done, hopefully bringing back that motivation that seemingly slipped away with the Holidays.
These are just a few ways that one can jumpstart their motivation, whether after the Holidays or otherwise. Whether they work or not really depends on the person, but there is a general understanding that these suggestions are the ones that seem to work the best. With these in mind, hopefully it’s only a matter of time before you’re back in the swing of it!
