You see the Falcon News every day in your first-period class. What people don’t see is the work that goes on behind the scenes.
The news is shot by Mr. Horry’s Broadcasting and Video classes. He has three classes with a lot of students in each, so how does he fit them all in where they want to be? Mr. Horry came up with a Role chart, somewhere where you can go to see what your role is for the day. You could be anywhere from on-air to sound effects, depending on what you want to do. The chart also goes through his three different classes so each class gets a turn to produce the news. When it’s your class day to produce, you go down to the studio. Weather is in charge of changing the weather so it’s accurate while the others on air do their mic checks so you can hear them. Then it’s up to the director to tell them when to start and the Teleprompter to make sure the on-air students know when to start and what to say.
Something new the news is doing this year is to appear more formal, this means less goofing off than the prior years, and also the on-air students wear blazers. This is for all days other than for the Friday news where you don’t have to wear it as a “fun” Friday. Now the next time you’re watching the morning news you know what to look out for.
