I remember how hot it was that day, the sun was glaring down at me as I stared aguishly into the hazy blue sky, summer was almost over. I’d just turned eighteen and was reminiscing about my childhood. The days that I wish would have lasted for an eternity are now over.
“Ashton, watch’a doing out here all by yourself dear?” said Winter. “Oh nothin aunty, just thinking.” Winter is my aunt and she’s the only family that I have left. I was too young to remember my parents’ faces when they decided to leave me with my aunty. All I remember is that on that night it had been very cold. “Oh my; look at you! You’re all grownup now. I remember back when you were just a wee little thing.” She smiled. “Why don’t you come help this old lady if you’re not doing anything?” “Of course aunty.” These days I’ve just been helping around the house with various chores. I think I’d like to look for a job soon. But since this is the last summer I’ll be seeing my friends before we all go our separate ways, we planned a trip. 0
A day later I had already been packed and ready to leave when my friends had called me. Sarah Ann’, Max, Rory, and Jacob, we’ve all known eachother since we were little and stayed close to each other throughout our lives. Sarah Ann’ and Jacob even started dating. The last time I saw all of them was when we all had gathered at an after party after graduation. I was just getting out of the shower when Walter stormed through the door, “Ashton can you hurr-” I don’t know why but he just stood there staring at me as I was half naked with only a towel to cover up. “Max what are you gawking at, get out!” “Well.. just make sure you hurry up!” After he said that, he left as fast as he came in. I’m not sure why but Max has been acting differently lately, I never know what he’s thinking in that head of his. After that I hurriedly gathered my clothes and combed my hair, for the first time in a while I was truly excited. Aunty was standing by the door with a few snacks she had baked. “Take care of yourself Aunty, I’ll be back soon, love you!” “Yes yes, love you too! Now hurry, don’t keep your friends waiting dear. “
As we were pulling out of the driveway I saw aunty waving on the porch and she seemed too lonely. “Max, wait! stop the car quick I forgot something.” Sarah ann’ and Rory both let out a sigh then chuckled. “Wow Ashton! It’s not like you to forget things!” Sarah ann said sarcastically. “Oh shush, I’ll be right back!” I quickly hopped out of the car and ran to aunty and gave her one last hug, after that I ran back to the car and we left.
