There have been rumors taunting the education system about allowing the use of Artificial Intelligence, or AI, in school. AI is a technology that has been growing for the last hundred years and recently snuck its way into schools. It enables students to converse with a chatbot that has human intelligence and problem-solving skills. However, allowing the accessibility to such an advanced innovation only hurts the students in the end.
If AI were to be allowed in schools, it would create an unfair advantage to those students at a school that can afford to fund it in contrast to the others. This would create an achievement gap in students who come from different social and economic backgrounds. It is also relevant to mention that AI cannot be trusted against bias as it presents information it finds, which can either be biased or completely incorrect. Because there is no way to prevent this, students can be receiving false information and spread prejudices. Finally, the most obvious disadvantage, students are more likely to cheat with AI. An individual can generate full essays by simply entering a keyword into a chatbot. They can also use it to translate any language. Why would someone want to put in the effort to complete a task when the ability to have a computer do it for you is accessible? Due to these reasons, I believe that Artificial Intelligence should not be allowed in education.
