Mrs. Richter is a 10th-grade English educator and a women in literature teacher who has taught here at Pottsgrove High School for 20 years. When I was in 10th grade we read “Nickel Boys” by Colson Whitehead and this quote describes how Mrs. Richter wants all her students to think about themselves. “We must believe in our souls that we are somebody, that we are significant, that we are worthful, and we must walk the streets of life every day with this sense of dignity and this sense of somebody-ness.”― Colson Whitehead, The Nickel Boys
Mrs. Richter went to Boston College to teach when she was younger and said “I wanted to have a career in teaching because I liked reading and literature and both of my parents were teachers.” While teaching this year, Mrs. Richter said, “I am motivated to teach every day because I want to make the world a better place and make an impact in my students’ academic lives“. While working in this school for 20 years Mrs. Richter hasn’t been involved in any activities in this school, but outside of school she loves reading and watching TV or movies but most of all she loves taking long walks with her dog. “I love taking long walks with my dog Barny in nice weather.” Mrs. Richter also takes care of her 11-year-old daughter outside of school. While teaching the students in the classroom the room is mostly quiet but when there’s a discussion activity the room is pretty noisy, some activities that go on in the classroom are vocabulary, reading particular books, projects, and group projects. One student said “I like Mrs. Richter because she is a great teacher and helps me boost my grade when it comes to not understanding the assignment.”, another one said, “Mrs. Richter is a great teacher I have had her my sophomore year, junior year, and senior year.” Many more students said amazing things about Mrs. Richter but most of all the main concept of all of the comments is that she is a great teacher and helps her students when they need help. In her class, some books that are read are The Color Purple, The Hate U Give, The Handmaid Tale, The Nickel Boys, How to Kill a Mockingbird, and many more. “Teaching gives me a sense of who I am and how I help students so I have never thought about any new careers,” says Mrs. Richter. In the action, she stands in the front of the classroom at the podium and speaks to the whole class. Overall Mrs. Richter is an amazing teacher and teaches very well because almost every student who had her loves her. “If it is true for you, it is true for someone else, and you are no longer alone.”
― Colson Whitehead, The Nickel Boys
Mrs. Richter wants everyone to know this is how she wants them to feel in her classroom. Thank you Mrs. Richter for all the things you do for your students and the staff!
