The Bob Marley “One Love” movie came out on February 15 and it is a smash hit already. After the first day in the box office, reaching 14 million. It is rated PG-13 for marijuana use and violence, with a movie run time of an hour and forty-four minutes. Famed Kingsly Ben-Adir plays the role of Bob Marley. The movie explains the political turmoil in Jamaica back in the 1970s when Bob Marley unexpectedly throws a peace concert. Ziggy Marley made sure that this movie was an accurate portrayal of his father’s experiences and his own experiences growing up as the son of Bob Marley. The movie depicts Bob Marley’s struggle with melanoma or Acral Lentiginous Melanoma, which is a rare form of skin cancer in his foot. Bob Marley chose not to get his toe amputated because of his Rastafarian religion, believing that it was a sin to remove any of your body parts. Bob Marley wound up dying on May 11, 1981 at the young age of 36 with 11 children. His oldest son, Ziggy Marley, would grow up following his father’s footsteps and make his own music. A similar movie will be coming out in the summer of 2025 following Michael Jackson’s life story.
