The country of Israel has declared war on Hamas, a Palestinian-based “terrorist organization”, due to an unprecedented attack on Saturday, October 7th. Israel and Palestine have been at a conflict for many years now, specifically since the late 1940’s. Tens of thousands of lives have been claimed. Since the attack on Israel, Israel has been firing deadly airstrikes at the Gaza Strip in Palestine. Over 100,000 Palestinians have been displaced and injured. Iran has been a huge support to Palestine in recent months, and also publicizing their resentment for Israel. Iran provides millions of dollars to both Hamas and Palestine Islamic Jihad. Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister, stated that his only intentions were to permanently destroy Hamas. Netanyahu has continuously had contact with the U.S. President Joe Biden. Israel is an ally of America, which is the reasoning for the repeated contact from Netanyahu.
To further dissect America’s involvement in this conflict, they have the power to stop this bloodshed, but they are unlikely to do so due to problems with the speaker of the house position. Politicians say it is far more likely that Biden aids Israel strictly financially. Both Palestine and Israel are currently holding hostages of the opposing country. Palestine has been living under terrible conditions for years within the Gaza strip, which is now being bombed and attacked by Hamas. We will see how this war plays out in the following weeks, and how America decided to aid Israel.
