Rex Orange County Charged With Six Counts of Sexual Assault
November 4, 2022
The musician Rex Orange County, real name Alexander O’Connor, has been alleged of six sexual assault charges on a woman who wishes to remain unnamed. The 24-year-old is accused of assaulting the woman twice on June 1 in London’s West End and four times the next day, including once in a taxi and three times in his Notting Hill home.
The singer gained notoriety as an independent artist with his songs “Best Friend” and “Loving Is Easy” from 2017. O’Connor grew to greater fame as Rex Orange County after featuring on several tracks on Tyler the Creator’s Grammy-nominated Flower Boy album. He has released three solo albums: Princess from 2017, Pony from 2019, and Who Cares from 2022—along with one live album, the 2015 mixtape Bcos U Will Never B Free.
It is reported that the victim was not of the legal age of consent. On October 10, O’Connor presented himself at Southwark Crown Court. He was allowed unconditional bail after entering a not guilty plea to each of the six accusations. O’Connor was given a date for his preliminary trial on January 3, 2023. Although the victim has gotten a great deal of support, some O’Connor supporters insisted that the allegations were false, pointing out that O’Connor was reportedly in the country on tour at the time of the alleged assault. Although the tour dates in question took place in 2022 rather than 2021, it has been shown that this is incorrect. O’Connor appears to lack a known alibi. According to a statement provided to EW by O’Connor’s lawyer, “Alex is horrified by the charges, which he denies, and looks forward to clearing his name in court.” He is unable to comment further due to pending legal proceedings.
