Students in Ukraine

As of February 24, 2022 Russia and Ukraine have gotten into quite a conflict. Ukraine decided to join NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Russia saw that as a threat. Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, sent troops to invade and bomb Ukraine. Ukrainian citizens have had to flee and find a safe place to stay while Russia is at war with Ukraine. Because of this attack, people’s workplaces, homes, schools and more are being destroyed and countless amounts of students are left without teachers, a school, a home, transportation and they are fighting for their lives.

Universities in countries that border Ukraine have been quick to help and take in student refugees while Russia is invading Ukraine. Although Ukrainian students aren’t the only ones struggling, Ukraine is a study destination for thousands of foreign students, and for them, fleeing has been a big struggle. Many foreign students studying in Ukraine have had problems fleeing because of their race. When trying to flee, foreign students are experiencing racism from border security and Ukrainian officers, thus making it even harder to flee the attack. An African medical student studying in Ukraine explained that she and other foreign students were ordered off the public transit bus and then drove off with Ukrainian citizens. This isn’t the only problem students in Ukraine are facing, many are without homes so then they are out of food and water and are struggling to survive while trying to flee the invasion of Ukraine.

The fleeing process for people in Ukraine is a struggle and they are suffering from and experiencing the loss of stability in their life. During this life-altering, stressful situation please consider donating to aid in the safety of citizens in ukraine. There are countless donation options to consider. Please do your best to stay informed on this touchy subject. Use my.care.org to donate.
