Winter Sports Pushed Back!
December 22, 2020
Our winter sports seasons have been long awaited by students, teachers, and coaches, but with Covid-19 everyone has had skepticism. Our skepticism has proved to be valid, because Governor Tom Wolf has pushed winter sports back until January 4th of the new year. So, in fact there will be no organized practices or games until that time. Governor Wolf has pushed us back due to the new update that Pennsylvania cases have reached above 60,400 and the positivity rates from all county testing is now above 15%. Although that does not seem like that much, it is a huge step backwards for us as a county, and as a state.
As we are in the middle of this suspension, devastation from students who plan to play has been well displayed across the community. Hope has even been lost by some players, who hope they make the team for whichever winter sport they desire. An underclassmen, who was optimistic about playing basketball this season, was interviewed and he anonymously said, “I don’t know if I’m going to try out this year because this season is gonna be so weird, and it is gonna be difficult since we would have to follow Covid protocols.” As we enter Christmas break athletes, and students in general, should be cautious of what they do over this break so we can make sure we have a great winter sports season.
